I suspect there is much latent anti-Semitism in the uniformed military who greatly resent being used as cannon fodder for the Zionist empire. It won't be long before "Big Gun" Dershowitz is brought out to smear Ron Paul as an antiSemite and Jew hater as he did Jimmy Carter. If AIPAC & Co sense Paul could seriously damage the chances of their specially "groomed and prepared" candidates like Giuliani or Hillary they will stop at nothing to eliminate him.
