Okay, the old decoupling meme has reared its ugly head.

Fact: Out of the 500 largest companies in the world, the US has 162. No other country comes close. No other country gets into three figures. Out of the 10 largest companies, 5 or 6 are American.

money.cnn.com

Those are the facts.

The 'decoupling' meme is a creature of anti-Americanism.

American corporations earn a huge amount of profits outside the US. If the US economy does badly, or doesn't grow, or whatever, profits can still come in overseas. An American company which is paid in dollars is super-competitive these days. If it is paid in some other currency, it is very profitable solely b/c of exchange rate variations.

There is a lot more to be said about 'decoupling' but in IMO it is another concept made to fit the mindset of the user, not the facts.
