Germany is not really a family oriented society - certainly not the most child friendly place. Education - My wife and I thought so too until we actually experienced the Kindergarten system with our four year old. While he speaks German without an accent, he also learned how to fight a few years early. More disturbing though is that in the "PISA" tests from 2000, it was clearly demonstrated to the surprise of the German public, that the US students performed better than Germans. Finland was near the top though. Currency and balance sheets in Europe currently look better, but we will see how long it lasts. US seems about the same as Europe in many ways and at least not far inferior.
