We grew up mostly in the country and kept livestock. In addition to our Saturday "inside chores" we had chickens, one or two horses and a hutch full of rabbits to feed. Every afternoon when we got home from school, one of us would go gather the eggs, the other put fresh water out. There was always plenty to do before play time.

My own kids never knew ANY of that. Daughter had no chores that I can remember. Son mowed the lawn all summer. Easy livin'.
