I doubt that Reagan wrote many (or any) of his own speeches. He was a "B" actor, not a writer, used to reading the words put in front of him with feeling, as if they were his own. He had a large staff of excellent speechwriters, the best Hollywood and the advertising industry could provide.

This man wrote "tear down this wall", and 300 other Reagan speeches:

Reagan was an OK President, elevated, as are ALL Presidents, by our new bottom slot occupant.

Reagan wrote many of his own speeches.

I am not sure Reagan can be considered a great president when he enabled Saddam Hussein. Remember Rumsfeld and Cheney cut their teeth under the Reagan administration.
