We weren't baling. After mowing the hay was left in the field a couple days to dry then was raked into rows. Then we took the hay wagon along the rows. Several men would walk along side and with pitch forks, toss the hay onto the wagon. My friend would stack it onto the wagon and he and I would stand on top as the stack grew taller. It would take nearly all day to fill that huge wagon. When it was full, my uncle blew a whistle and his daughters (my cousins) would all come running from the house and all of us would ride that wagon back to the barn. Fun times, but certainly hard work.
