Yep. What, you don't believe an AMD Director?

From 7/16/07 interview:

hwupgrade.com

Hardware Upgrade: Good morning Giuseppe, could you tell us what your position at AMD is?

Giuseppe Amato: I am AMD's EMEA Sales & Marketing Technical Director; I'm superintendent of all the technical specifications of AMD's x86 family of products and of AMD embedded solutions that are distributed on the European, Middle Eastern and African markets. Consequently, I’m also involved in the technological matters related to AMD GPUs and chipsets.

Giuseppe Amato: As for Opteron solutions, we have already made public the release date which is in September. At that time we will launch the new processors of the Barcelona family. As for the Phenom processors for desktops, the first samples of Phenom FX CPUs will be available by the end of the year, while the remaining versions of the family will arrive by March 2008.

Re: Hey, ya still think Phenom will only be a few FX parts in 2007?

Yes, I still do(*), based on Henri's and Dirk's comments during the earnings conference. Anand's comments of course suggest a performance preview prior to actual availability, but just because some marketing guys promise him a bunch of samples, doesn't mean that they will show up at retailers or OEMs in more than just a trickle until 2008.

(*)By the way, you have slightly mischaracterized my expectations. The latest roadmap shows one FX part (the FX-80) and several other quad core parts based on the Agena die (essentially, a Barcelona with HTT 3.0 enabled and socket-AM2+ package). I think AMD will paper launch these by the end of the year, but volumes will not show up materially until 2008. This isn't just a baseless opinion, but an extrapolation based on comments from AMD's highest executives during their earnings conference, along with roadmaps leaked to the press.

Note the ranges in this roadmap for various Phenom parts. It's an indication that AMD may come in below the top of the range, and instead release parts aimed at the bottom of the range. It will be interesting to see how much performance AMD gets when Anand has a chance to review his samples.
