You are more interested in discussing the peccadillos of posters than you are talking about politics.

I AM talking politics, just not the populist partisan politics that dominate this thread.

There are two important political issues in play in the commentary that adresses what you call "the peccadillos of posters." A poster peccadillo IMO is typing "their" instead of "there" or failing to capitalize "Constitution," as I did, myself, a couple of times today. I never make an issue of peccadillos. I do make an issue of certain issues.

Issue one the failure of governance-- the increasing partisanship, the nastiness of partisanship, the polarization, the gamesmanship, the sound-bite mentality, the willful ignorance, and the drowning out of discussions of actual issues that has become an overwhelming barrier to constructive action. When folks have knee-jerk partisan reactions to everything, they are willingly contributing to a problem, the inability to conduct constructive politics, that could destroy us. The risk from that is much greater than the risk of a caliphate but the "patriots" are fiddling while Rome burns.

Issue two is a loss of competitiveness--the dumbing down of America. We have some serious competitors out there. We need a smart, educated, thoughtful workforce to compete. We need to value and foster logic and critical thinking, not mock it, if we are to maintain our standing in the world or we could end up having to compete by undercutting China's wage levels. Every time someone sees "deserves the right to the best quality health care" and infers some cognitive bastard, turns that bastard into a gotcha, and every time someone else gives that gotcha an "amen," we move closer to a future where we are the coolies.

End of rant.
