It is undeniable we have a self interest in the Middle East.

See.......therein lies the gap that separates present day liberals and conservatives in this country. The right believes the US's military power gives it a certain legitimacy to intervene wherever it chooses. The left believes the US is one country among many and doesn't have the right to interfere in the affairs of other countries.

Now what's interesting about this setup is that the right gets infuriated whenever it thinks the UN or another country is interfering in the affairs of the US. And yet they choose to behave in the world in a manner that would make them go ballistic if it were happening to them. And then feign shock when terrorists take out two office towers in NYC.
