How does one capture the performance halo without a performance-leading part?

Say they produce a 3GHz Phenom-FX in December (probably at 150W).

That would lose to an equivalently clocked Penryn in virtually everything, to say nothing of faster parts.

BTW, do you think Intel should one-up AMD and demo a cherry-picked 4GHz Penryn at IDF in August, just because they could?
