re: Steroids are known to cause mood swings and shorten lifespans. I am not sure it should be made legal.

McDonalds isn't great for you either.

Actually, I have no idea what you do about steroids. Illegal and guys will cheat and get an advantage if they don't get caught. Legal and in some sports everybody would be forced to use them just to compete. I heard they are saying that some golfers are using steroids... one of the commentators said "steroids will not help you make an 8 foot putt".

But it will give you more power in your swing when you tee off. I am not sure if that's a benefit in golf or not since I don't play.

If you look at the history of the people who have taken steroids for any length of time, their lifespans tend to be much shorter. There is this guy who won the last three strongman competitions in the US......he definitely looked like he was buffed from steroids. I am using the past tense intentionally.......he collapsed and died this past week. He was 27. In fact, during the past few years, there have been any number of young, buffed athletes who have collapsed and died. I suspect steroids was the culprit.

Like with many things, doctors don't really understand the full impact of steroids on the human body. So...aside from the competitive advantage it gives some players, there are health reasons to ban them.
