@TG - EU
What should we say now. No decision was finally made, so its
up to everyone, whether he thinks that Intel has to pay some-
thing or not. When you ask me, Intel violated rules in the
past, but changed these, after AMD went very aggressive here.
The biggest decision making event was probably the japan
trial. I don't have facts on hand, but I assume, that Intel
changed some pratices after that. You could see the result -
AMD is now in nearly all major OEMs, which wasn't the case
before. I don't think Intel will say officially that they
did something wrong, of course, but it could be, that they
have to pay something in europe first. When I look at other
filings especially in the auto sector, the charges were a
3 digit number. I would expect the same for Intel, if they
can't rule that out for them in a good way. I would expect
payments of 400-700Mio. Euros, which means Intel has to pay
as much as 1B $ in a very worst case mode. Keep in mind, that
AMD will get not a single penny for that. The number is
probably smaller and it has to be seen finally, if it will
go that way. 1B payment for Intel isn't nice for shareholders,
but thats 2/3 of a quarter work to get that again in. With
over 10B in the banks, even if they have to pay, it will not
change something. What this will mean for the US courts has
to be seen. I don't want to speculate, whether a "against
Intel" ruling would/could help AMD here (US) too. Probably.

TG - It's been an ongoing saga; I guess people are tired of hearing all the charges and are ready to hear of actual progress/results.

Dear TG:

All the Intel cheerleaders are hoping "Say it isn't so, Intel!" Worst case would be that the EU banned the import of Intel CPUs and any products with them. What would that do to Intel? 20-25% of the market gone. Likely more as related countries not in the EU followed suit like India, Australia and Canada. Instantly AMD has a 40% market share in both units and soon after revenue. Intel just barely breaking even and against an AMD with lots of resources. Price war would end and massive layoffs at Intel as they try to keep their head above water.

2nd worst case, a massive fine equal to the revenue Intel made from the EU over the period in question. Some $10 to 15 billion dollars, some of which going to AMD in the likely civil suit in the EU that follows. Again gone are any hope that AMD will go under. Intel has to take on massive debt to pay the fines and that means the stoppage of the price war. Intel will still lose most government contracts and those of EU state related firms plus some allied countries. AMD likely would get its required 35% market share in revenue and due to the increased demand, build out Fab 38 soonest and build NY quickly. Chartered and TSMC would get massive orders in the short term. And all of the debt would be paid off.

In either case Intel stock would take a big blow and AMD's would again skyrocket.

Nightmare scenarios for Intel boosters sure. But they knew it was coming. Perhaps those institutions holding up AMD's stock had good premonitions of how this will turn out. They may get that homerun they were hoping for.

Pete

It seems that most of the investors here are people who are more involved in the minute by minute technological advantage of either Intel or AMD and therefore that should determine market value of AMD or Intel...my opinion is that wall street (and some of the posters here) are protecting Intel's high market cap and downplaying AMD on a constant basis as a result...larger forces (hedge funds) could be at work here to smother AMD and also it looks like AMD management back tracks and back pedals whenever certain posters here think they should and eventually AMD management does...how convenient....
