(Probably at some point all the legal actions, and threats of legal actions, will be preempted when the Prez announces that 'his friend' is leaving to 'go back into private practice' and 'spend more time with his family'. :-)

IMO though, that could be bad for the country in the long-run, because we really need to hash out all the problems that the country seems forever to be running into, (with practically every President's administration that I can think off in my adult lifetime, Dem or Rep...), over the tension between the U.S. AG being 'his President's man' and being a trustworthy independent Constitutional officer.

Enough is enough.

Since this kind of crap seems to happen with EVERY President now, I no longer blame any President for the unseemly politicization of the AG's office, and the diminution of that office, and loss of respect because of it... instead I assume that they must be a STRUCTURAL PROBLEM that needs to be fixed.

The office of the Presidency needs it's own lawyer --- separate from the AG's office, I think....

Alberto Gonzalez must stay. If he were to take the wimp's way out and resign Senate democrats and Arlen Spector would ravage the Justice Department during any confirmation proceedings. If he were to resign it should be after the current session so a recess appointment could serve the remainder of President Bush's term.

The criticisms of him are entirely political.
