In a very real sense shiaa are a greater threat to saudis than a few million jews living in less than 1% of total arab controlled land. The Iranians probably "control" more land in southern iraq than israel constitutes and iran has friends in syria and lebanon and in the emirates. No probably about it, they do, and on any scale of real threat Iran outweighs Israel to Saudi Arabia by 1000 times. It's not that Saudi Arabia feels threatened by Israel, it's more the principle of the thing to them. No Jewish state should be allowed to exist. Period, end of sentence. Then on top of existing, Israel beat back Arab attempts to destroy them several times. Talk about humiliating, being beaten by a gang of contemptible Jews! So they had to build Israel up to a big threat, hand in glove with the USA, controlling the USA even - it is just too shameful to admit the reality otherwise. But a real Iranian threat to seize the Eastern Provinces, Shia inhabited and containing all the oil - that might make them swallow their pride a little.
