NicoV,

Add to that the increase in revenue from ATI products. Remember the 2xxx series started selling at the fag end of June.

Regards

Re: ASP/GM rise because of Barcelona introduction

Not necessarily.

Re: Q3 and Q4 typically show very healthy growth numbers for AMD ... So 30-40% growth (units or dollars) from Q2 to Q4 looks normal for AMD. Taking this into consideration, being profitable in Q4 doesn' t look unbelievable to me.

This is a flawed analysis. For one thing, Q2 was above seasonal, because demand grew from Q1 (seasonal from Q1 is usually down 5-10%). No one today is expecting growth in the second half that's seasonal from Q2. They are looking at growth seasonal from Q1. Q2 is a high blip in the radar.

Secondly, this does not take into account the changing competitive situation, Intel's Xeon quad core price cuts, Core micro-architecture ramp in the low end, desktop price cuts, etc. You should only look to historical revenue growths if all else is equal. But all is not equal, and AMD is not in as good a position this quarter as they were last quarter. And neither Barcelona nor Phenom are going to be material enough adders to revenue to change that in H2 2007.

re >> You conveniently forget that ...

How would this forgetfullness be convenient for anyone with a substantial investment ? My memory or forgetfullness won't change any results. So lets drop that typical AMD-fan bullshit language. I have a large investment in my model, and I presume you have at least some investment in yours. Wishful thinking and convenient belief won't affect the outcome. Except in the case of the visionaries here who just talk and have no other interest.

Anyway,
re >>
- AMD will get cash from selling Fab30 equipment
- AMD will get cash from selling Spansion shares
<<

These are one-time, non operational events that will not affect earnings or margins or cash burn. All (or nearly all) the proceeds will go to paying debt. So they won't even help liquidity.

re >>- ASP/GM rise because of Barcelona introduction

Certainly not in q3. And not in q4 either, according to AMD management.

re >>- Q3 and Q4 typically show very healthy growth numbers for AMD:
Q3 06 18% units
Q4 06 19% units
<<

Maybe you overlooked (not out of convenience, just oversight) the fact that AMD had a 38% increase in units (from q1 '07 to q2 '07). But zero change in financial results. So why would unit increase in q3 make any difference ? (taking into consideration the price drops of July).

I believe BUGGI and wbmw have posted details showing the seasonal increase in units simply does not reduce the loss by much. AMD needs higher margin products. These are just plain missing for the remainder of '07.

>> So 30-40% growth (units or dollars) from Q2 to Q4 looks normal for AMD.
Taking this into consideration, being profitable in Q4 doesn' t look unbelievable to me.
<<

Then how do you explain that this level of increase did not accomplish break-even in q2 ?
