"It's a pretty fine line on our need to know sometimes, Buddy."

Yes, but *this one* wasn't even close....

It was CLEARLY very much in the interests of the American people to know.

Hell, with MULTIPLE OFFICIAL SOURCES for this news story coming out of the various military services, all chomping at the bit to tell their story about how they were all 'loaded for bear' sitting on the runway waiting to take off against al Qaeda and Taliban leaders in Pakistan, only to have Rummie kill the mission at the very last possible minute... how do you even know that this 'leak' wasn't sanctioned all the way up to the White House, as a way of putting PRESSURE on Pakistan?

Like saying - very directly to them - 'See. Look what we are prepared to do under our own steam if you continue diddling and sitting on your hands and letting al Qaeda and Taliban have sanctuary in your lands, train their terrorist recruits, re-arm and re-strengthen, and then launch attacks against our guys right across the unmarked Afghan/Pakistani border.'

You DON'T KNOW that Washington didn't want this story to get out. (Clearly the Special Forces guys have been wanting this story told for over a year now and, with Rummie gone, maybe that is one of the reasons they can talk about it now?)

But, in any event --- it is CLEARLY important for the American public to hear.
