Anyone who is a student of Canadian history will acknowledge the importance of the UEL influence in forming the peculiar Canadian identity, particularly the inclination towards "order and good government" that differentiates us from the United Statians (and which is one side of the internal contradiction that makes Al Swearingen's character so compelling in Deadwood). I always use the 10:1 ratio when comparing the US and Canada in population-based terms, but hadn't realized it had applied so far back. LC
