OK, this is what Obama actually said.

“I would,” he said without hesitation. “And the reason is that the notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them — which has been the guiding principle of this administration — is ridiculous. Ronald Reagan and Democratic presidents like JFK constantly spoke to the Soviet Union at a time when Ronald Reagan called them an evil empire. And the reason is because they understood that we may not trust them and they may pose an extraordinary danger to this country, but we had the obligation to find areas where we can potentially move forward.”

Now tell me that Reagan's meetings with Gorbachev was not warranted. I am sure that most American people are smart enough to figure out how Obama responded. It is this type of response that is more refreshing. Not the type of responses from the Clinton camp from the likes of Madeline Albright etc. that got us to 9/11 in the first place. The bullying of the American foreign policy during the Clinton years, the convoluted way of dealing with the Muslims during the Clinton years is what produced the likes of Osama and Zawahiri in the first place. And the current Administration is not only refusing to speak to rogue leaders (well they are forced to talk with Iran now over Iraq), the Bush Administration has also alienated the US from Europe because of the way they have approached Iraq.

What do you have to say to Europeans refusing to talk to US about Iraq, refusing to send their folks into Iraq to assist the US etc.

It is time that we have a level headed person in the White House who displays the responsibility that goes with the office and not the arrogance.

War against terrorism can only be won by winning the hearts and minds and not by suppressing them.
