the semiconductor equipment market is expected to grow by 22 percent in 2008 as 26 new 300-mm fabs will be operational by 2008, according to the Pennsylvania-based market research company The Information Network.

That's way out of line according to LRCX predictions - LRCX is predicting more ore less flat (which does not exclude that bookings will start increasing at some point of time) sorry I stick with SCE management predictions - they seem to be far more accurate

PARIS " After declining by 2.3 percent in 2007, the semiconductor equipment market is expected to grow by 22 percent in 2008 as 26 new 300-mm fabs will be operational by 2008, according to the Pennsylvania-based market research company The Information Network.

The market research company reported that 9 new 300-mm fabs will come online in 2007 and another 17 new 300-mm fabs in 2008. It has also tracked an additional 55 300-mm fabs that will be adding capacity through 2008.

The Information Network said it anticipates these fabs will add 680,000 wafer starts per month in 300-mm capacity on top of the current capacity of 2.1 million 300-mm wafer starts per month. This will represent more than a 32-percent increase in 300-mm capacity

"The added capacity will equate to a 22-percent increase in revenues for 2008," commented Dr. Robert Castellano, president of The Information Network. "Equipment sales have moved from 3 year cycles prior to 2001 to 1 year cycles, with huge revenue swings between peaks and valleys, and 2008's 22-percent revenue growth will come on top of a 2-percent drop in revenues in 2007."
