Re: "Here's a list. I find their increased anti-shipping capabilities and interests worth noting."

The most interesting thing that I note is that their commitment to a socialist economy, with *massive* under-investment in industrial infrastructure (refineries, etc.), and their *hugely* expensive gasoline subsidies to the hoi-poloi, means that they are failing (and national power is fading) FAST....

Combine the disaster of an economic policy (complete with 'Soviet style' Five Year Plans and all.... :-) with one of the YOUNGEST national population demographics in the world (ensuring a whole lot of under-employed youths unhappy with the Theocrats running everything) --- and you have a situation where it's practically inevitable that the government will not last all that long, ceuterus paribus.

Practically the *only* thing that could extend the reign of this highly unpopular government (even more unpopular then Bush :-) would be attack or involvement by foreigners that the Mullahs could use as a rallying cry to nationalism....

(Actually --- were the Mullahs to get bogged down in a civil war in Iraq with the Saudi / Sunni opposition --- it would be an open question just WHICH corrupt government would fall *first*... the Persian or the Saudi.)
