I agree that al Sadr is a big problem and is doubtless attempting to do what you describe. It is very hard to figure out what is really going on, and who is up and who is down. I hear other reports that al Sadr is losing support. The open question is if Moqty is smart enough to pull off what you suggest. Most observers say not. I would lay my money on Sistani - he is the master chess player, I think. bwdik?

I wish the Americans had killed Moqty in Najaf in 2004 as they would have if the Brits had not done a backdoor deal and let him go. We should have acted when al Sadr had Imam Khoiei killed. Our failure to act harshly then (we wanted to be Mr. Nice Guy) was a terrible display of weakness. You can't do that in the Middle East.
