AMD should use that analogy in court.

Dan3, Re: Jeez, if only GM had been allowed to pay car dealers to not carry Toyota, Datsun (back then), and Honda, we'd still have GM, Ford, And Chrysler holding 90+% of the US auto market.>

Actually, I think the record would indicate they, the US Auto and parts Makers, did. Back in the '60s and early '70s.

On the other side there were problems with parts houses being unable to sell "American Equivalent" to Japanese car parts while also being unable to get the OEM parts.

And the Securities Biz. helped them out. In around '66, and I know I've posted this before, I advised my dad to buy some Toyota stock. He checked with, at that time , iirc, Merrill Lynch, not yet MLPFS, and found he'd have to buy a huge number and pay almost as much in commissions as the stock was worth.

About the same thing happened to me when I tried to buy $1K of Telmex in ~1987. MLPFS I was told they "Wouldn't buy junk for their customers."

While I didn't follow that one up I left MLPFS when I found that aborted trade would have been ~ a 1600 banger, ~1992.

Amazing what floats over the dam when you've been around it for a while.

Mmm, Compiler/software division split out would be one of my favorites.
