It can! I have a friend who, when he got sick, drank nothing but water. He had to go to the ER because he was getting worse instead of better. The ER doc told his wife he was drinking too much water. When asked how can this be, the ER doc said drinking 6 8oz glasses of water a day is fine but, unless your out in the head all day, you don't need any more then that.
