You make an excellent point.

There is no law that says financial disasters can't come rapidly.

(Possibly our reliance upon external financing for our national debt could be a very real weakness and pressure point. All it would take would be buyers buying less and less Treasury debt --- and more of other countries' debt, and more real assets and corporate --- and we could fast see an interest rate spike to make Volker turn-over in his grave.)
