You can say Saddam was toothless but he was more than strong enough to take Kuwait and SA.

I said he was toothless after the first Gulf War, which he was. SA didn't need our troops anymore. We thought it was good for our strategic interests in the region to leave our troops there. That may have been a pretty deadly miscalculation on our part.

Sure our presence in Iraq draws AQ types to Iraq, but wherever we went that would happen.

It doesn't just draw them, it creates them just like Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor created a lot of Americans willing to kill Japanese...

Events matter.
