I have been worried about that from day one with Bush. I distrust the consumed higher power folks- because let's face it, their higher power, whatever it is, is bound to be more important to them than the rest of us (and in Bush's case, than his father's opinion), and such beliefs can be a mighty shield against something as mundane as, say, reality:

I would suggest to you that Carter had the same problems as Bush. Both men have deep religious beliefs that get in the way of logical behavior, and real politik. I think that's partly why they were both such bad presidents.

Maybe in 2009 we will get a foreign policy based on realism instead of grand apocalyptic visions; the rhetoric won't be as dramatic but our allies will sleep much better at night not wondering if we have completely lost our minds.
