Still, I think that a 100 mile 'city car' is doable. And plug in hybrids are the next step in the evolution... your "Volt" post was good.

The thing is it looks more and more like 'peak oil' is real. And/or we're dumb enough to instigate another, only longer lasting embargo. We're using 25% of the worlds oil production and we are so vulnerable.... this stuff makes terrorism look like nothing.

We need to start implementing solutions to get off oil. It doesn't have to be 100%; we need to get moving on continuous incremental improvement. If some solutions are a bit inconvenient, then you give incentives to make up for the inconvenience. Nobody is going to come out with a perfect car for $10K that goes 500 miles on a charge in the next 10 years.

But it's time to move on this... tick, tick, tick. Our way of life is in the balance. Things could break bad at any time, or it could be a slow water torture thing; a little worse each year until we're....

I think the ultimate "battery" will be direct mass to energy conversion in a battery sized package. Someday.
