I have no problem with #2 as an alternative to what goes on now. #2 is indeed how i view the US. But as you say its not in the cards. There are far more israelis open to such an idea than arabs. What you are describing is the US. I love the US. But as we painfully find out every day, the US is not the template for most of the rest of the world. If there had been no attack in 1948, the area might have evolved to a quasi-2 situation.
