The stats I read says men drink 13 cups on average per day and women about 9: mayoclinic.com

Replacement is around 8 cups but you need to add extra if you exercise or have certain medical conditions or environments.

I have heard that if you are on a diet, larger amounts of water will help you flush the toxins formed from the breakdown of fats in your body, BWDIK?

The only cautionary is to that you can overload on water if you go completely overboard (no pun intended) about it. Then you face problems with low sodium in your blood and potential kidney problems.
