I don't know that I'd accept that as a fact, but I certainly am not going to argue against it as there aren't many examples of Muslims living peacably with non-Muslims after the Muslims get near a majority position. Malaysia is a good example of Muslims living with non-Muslims I guess, but the troubled Muslims areas in the world much more numerous than the successes. Actually, Malaysia is the only one I can think of.

There aren't many examples, and they are getting fewer. That is the result of 30 years of Saudi-funded Wahabbi proselytizing in the ummah. You could argue that the traditional Islam of Malaysia and Indonesia was pretty easy going & allowed live-and-let-live, but you can't say that about the Wahabbi strain that Saudi madrassas teach. Wahabbi Islam is all about the return to the good old days of the 7th century and fighting the holy jihad against the infidels. Khomeneist Islam is just as bad from the Shia side. Once these strains take hold, you don't have anymore the choice between extreme and moderate Muslims; only between extreme and lapsed Muslims.

The trouble with Islam is that jihad and subjegation of infidels is embedded in the basic DNA of the religion; it's right there, front and center, in the Koran and the hadith, and anyone arguing against it has his work cut out for him in terms of major reinterpretation. The more moderate sects, such as Sufism, are NOT in ascendancy today.

Perhaps it's the Israelis that just can't live with the Muslims? Certainly true in Nadine's case..
