Nobody would support a restrictive thing such as a poll tax to bar voters. However, if we had a civics test to be eligible to vote many voters of all stripes would be unable to vote.

Requiring voters to be moderately aware of the issue could only improve the quality of elected officials. I hope we have reached the bottom of the barrel. Many politicians have become so corrupt that there is no representation of the people, only of the large donors. A few large corporate donors such as Peter Lewis (Progressive Insurance), George Soros (Soross Funds, moron.org, dailykos, scAirAmerica, etc.) have gotten way too powerful. After you lump them in with the unions that hold veto power over democrat policies and you have a huge corrupting influence in American politics.
