The USA allocates plenty of money for infrastructure, but the priorities are screwed up. When the 35W bridge collapsed, Minnesota was just about to break ground for a new baseball stadium nearby. They should have put that money toward replacing the bridge instead.

And Congress has turned the whole thing into a giant wayo scheme, where politicians solicit campaign contributions and kickbacks in return for earmarking funds for special pet projects. For example, building a new freeway interchange that will benefit a land developer, instead of upgrading existing interchanges that need repair.
