You could say nothing much happened after man learned to domesticate grain 12,000 years ago. You could say nothing much happened after man learned how to smelt bronze 5500 years ago. You could say nothing MUCH happened for a hundred years after Newton. One hundred years after he died the fastest a man could go was STILL 5 miles/hour.

When you start with almost nothing, it takes a long time for the magic of compound interest to look magical.
