So did I. Worked as a factory worker several summers, assembled fridges and deep freezers. I was "organized", a red book union member, which cost me 10% of my summer pay.
Why???
Because that was a compulsory rule by law in Scandinavia back then, probably still is. Had I opted out the other workers had gone on a legally supported strike.
