"The truth is inflation has been between 5-7% for the last several years for everything that anyone needs to survive."

Real inflation, ignoring the Gubmint smoke and mirrors funny fudging figures, has averaged about 7% per year for decades, in my estimation. The Big Question at the end of this credit bubble is, will it end with a bang (1920s Weimar style printing press hyperinflation, got $Gold?), or a whimper (go straight into a 1930s style deflationary depression, got $USDollars?). Note that $Gold also did well in the Great American Depression after the first few years, so it would seem that it should make a decent hedge for both scenarios, if not once more confiscated by the Gubmint, that is.

Excellent post Jim!

Note that gold rallied hard Friday.

If Bernanke starts to cut here we will see new highs in the flash of an eye IMHO.

jim p - great comments...

There's no denying that this has been an unprecedented debt & credit orgy. Also no denying that a correction is underway.

We've already seen a lot of carnage. The homebuilders who were the direct beneficiary of this insanity, have now given back virtually their entire move from this cycle.

We've seen scores of U.S. subprime lenders go bankrupt, with spillovers and bailouts also seen in Germany and Australia.

It's a matter of whether the Fed has all their ducks aligned.

It will be interesting.

Tomorrow could see some manic swings.

Glad to see you back... don't be a stranger...and don't hesitate to speak your mind.

I always look forward to hear what you have to say.

Good to see you back,
