If someone can't breastfeed I certainly wouldn't call them a bad mom (and your wife was probably upset about not breastfeeding because she knew breastfeeding was the best choice. Kudos to her for knowing that). But if women can breastfeed and choose not to? Yeah- I'd say that choice is a black mark against you- akin, as I said, to stuffing your kid on sugared cereals and chicken fingers. Sure, you're kid will live- but are you feeding your child well? No. That's bad. Doesn't mean you're Black Heart Bart the Mom, but it's bad.

"No sooner was formula introduced, then it was followed by an increase in Type 1 diabetes. In fact, formula-fed babies have a 50% more likelihood of developing Type 1 diabetes as compared to breastfed babies.

A 2006 study (Neurobiology of Aging) has shown a potential correlation between the use of infant formula and the risk of developing Parkinsons'. The study examined rats over a series of years and researchers theorized that the excessive amounts of iron in formula (most of which cannot be readily absorbed) may be what leads to neurological problems with a diet of infant formula.
"

If the obesity study is correct, that's a huge reason to be really proactive about getting women to breastfeed.

If a parent makes poor choices with regard to their child's health, how can they not be a bad parent? If they don't have a choice to make- for example they are unable to nurse- that doesn't apply- but when you can make a good choice, and you don't make the good choice because you don't want to, why can't we call that "bad".
