This is the attitude that causes the problem. I'll bet you don't chant that mantra the next time you're in an operating room. You'll be "praying" that the people who are working on you were well served by their parents and the larger community. The older generation cannot survive without the younger generation. We owe it to ourselves to recognize their success is in our best interests. Of course, if you want to be a free rider, you're free to do so. I don't go out of my way to do anything for the younger generation, either. I am definitely not a busybody. But I try at the very least to set a good example. I'm part of the village, a small part, but still a part.
