And most of us don't want to :-)

The problem, imo, is that extreme moves toward capitalism and weird movements like communism ignore our evolutionary past. Almost all tribal societies are, to some extent, collectivist- and by that I mean the governance is collectivist. The tribe tries to take care of the old and the sick. There are collective sharings of food- whether hunting kills, or harvests- that's socialism baby. We've evolved to favor collectives. Now we have NOT evolved to favor collectives that ignore merit- so communism is just never going to work. People who work harder want to be cheif, and get more. That's just the way humans are. But, imo, mild socialism is fairly neatly tailored to what most people want (although you may not want that, which would make you not part of the "most people"), and they want that because of the way humans are, and humans are the way they are because they evolved in collectivist tribes. JMO

You can dream about any sort of civilization you want to- more power to you. And if you can make it happen, again, my hat is off to you- but when you work against human nature it's an uphill battle. That's where I come from when I look at this sort of thing.
