It is the neocon dream of Syriana. Funded by an endless amount of American bucks in exchange for regular supply of oil, the people's will readily put aside their centuries-old difference and embrance a new form of government and social order. If this requires them to compromise on certain elements of religious belief, cultural autonomy, family grudges....well, in the neocon view they will happily do so because they could buy more cell phones, television sets and automobiles.

Remember, it was the idiot neocon William Kristol who swore back in 2002 that Iraq would not resort to any form of sectarian backlash after Saddam was gone because they had a middle class and no history of such troubles (Hello!..had he read anything about the region?).

The neocons live in think tanks, supported by "like-minded" brilliant people, all of whom see the world in their own reflections. None have lived in other cultures (unless it was England or the Hamptons) and they can't understand that money is not always the single answer to all problems...or that not everyone will sell out and settle for a car and a refrigerator.

Hubris beyond belief.....and THEY are still spouting the drivel as if being wrong on every key point for five years doesn't make any difference in how people are to look at their peerless forecasts for the region...
