I guarantee that any woman who truly wants to breast-feed and can't...already feels bad enough

You seem to have missed the point so your outrage is misplaced. The women who can't are not at issue. I haven't seen anyone suggest that they be made to feel worse about it. Certainly not me. I'm not even advocating that free formula be withdrawn.

No one wants to make a woman feel bad for not being able to breastfeed when she cannot. The women who want to, and can't, have been cheated out of a wonderful experience, and they have my sympathy.

I was only talking about women who are perfectly able to breastfeed and women who understand that breastfeeding is best and yet who choose not to do what is best for their own convenience. I think when people do something suboptimal because they want to, one is allowed to look at them askance. I don't think they should be forced to wear a scarlet "B" or anything, but I do think we are allowed to show our displeasure at the sub-optimal willful behavior of others.
