A couple of days is reasonable, which reduces the burden on the moderator. But I also think some context should be used with it. For instance, if there is an on-topic conversation that is free of insults, there is no need to limit posts. If the posts degenerate to repetition and personal attacks, then it should be enforced.

By the way, I think the people who complain about signal to noise ratio are generally sore AMD-losers who want to shut out negative posts. There is important signal in the explanations, and re-worded explanations of what a person means.

Dear CJ:

As I have Doug on ignore, I don't complain much. However going by the number of posts, the signal to noise ratio is awfully low when 40-50% of the posts are his and the responses to him.

No disrespect, but most think that the speed limit would be enforced within 12 hours, 24 tops. But if you don't have the time to keep that close a watch, I at least understand. That is why I think it should be no less than 2 of your viewing periods back for history with the effect of a ban for at least one viewing period per day over the limit whatever the viewing period is.

I don't view the thread that much over the weekend for example going through the posts 10 at a crack come Monday. So I may complain up to 60 hours after the event in any case.

Pete

When are you going to give a time-out to this spamming nut?

This is an investment board where people do short stocks. People can drive a stock down with enough bearish blather. Or they can drive the price up also. It is a sophisticated board which influential journalists in the trade read and have in the past quoted.

When you get around to your PMs, you'll see that pirasa2 has earned himself a 1-month ban for his latest works over on the mod thread.

CJ, It's not up to you to look.

If you don't get a complaint within one day of the offense(That 24 hour period or the next.) I'd let it slide.

If nobody involved in the discussion cares enough to tell you about the problem in near real time why should you get involved?

(Who thinks 20 in 24 hours is far more than enough.)

Dear CJ:

DougSF30 is already over 20 posts today alone. Here is a heads up to speed limit him.

So many posts are him or someone replying to him, most are noise.
