Eventually any such program will be rationalized by saying: "the cost is only three weeks of operations in Iraq", or even better: " this represents only twice the amount of money we allocated but can't account for in Iraq". Cost is cost, but I think the republicans should be careful about opposing this kind of infrastructure spending, as it hits close to home.... By cooincidence I was in the Minneapolis airport when the bridge collapsed. Everybody's cell phone came out fast and calls were flying reassuring loved ones we weren't on the bridge or making sure they weren't on it....it was a very tangible moment of vulnerability.
