Days like this make a person like myself in
cash feel smug--but the market will whipsaw
upward too. Maybe on Friday, more likely early
next week.

The question is this: Is it two steps back, one
forward and repeat for a net bear market--or not?

We haven't really tested trading curbs and all yet
(or have we seen curbs on program trading?)
It is something on the order of +/- 500 on the Dow,
I suppose when Wall Street reaches thresholds we
will see the headlines.
