American Eagle same-store sales decline 6% 4:17 PM ET, Aug 08, 2007 - By William Spain - 5 minutes agoCHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- American Eagle Outfitters reported Wednesday that July sales at stores open at least a year decreased 6%, while total sales for the four-week period were up were up 19% to $233.9 million. The average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Financial had been for American Eagle to post a same-store-sales increase of 2.9%. The company said the drop reflected a decline in store traffic due largely to later back-to-school starts across the country as well as Florida's and Texas' move of tax-free events from July to August.AEOS 02. Analysts, on average, had expected the company to post a July same-store sales drop of 7.1%, according to Thomson Financial. Net sales for the four weeks ended Aug. 4 rose 5% to $55.6 million, the City of Industry, Calif.-based teen retailer said. Hot Topic also reaffirmed its second-quarter forecast for a loss in the range of 2 cents to 4 cents a share.HOTT
