Intel in Euro-Land
July 31, 2007; Page A14

Would the WSJ defend Microsoft if they told IBM they could have Windows for free if they stopped installing Linux on servers?

Around July 31, 1969, the WSJ probably did editorialize that IBM should be able to bundle the OS and give it away for free if you only bought their hardware. But IBM lost that antitrust case, and today they're just one of several top-tier computer vendors.

Dear Petz:

WSJ says, how dare you charge my favorite company Intel with first dollar rebates and all the other stuff that allows it to bilk endusers out of $68 billion over ten years. The nerve of those people to insist that companies play within the rules. We at WSJ like monopolies except for any that supply newsprint paper, ink or printing presses. We hate it when our ox is the one being gored. Then we sing a different tune.
