No Nadine - there will be some market event that will make the task doable. Look at it this way - means testing to take SS away from the financially responsible is only a slight step from today's tax the rich mantra. Changing SS when it is necessary will be easy.

I have listened to the politicians. Remember the politicians saying those that are "rich" shouldn't be getting social security checks, they don't need it?

I have planned for SS to fail and if my plan is successful, I think the politicians will be telling me: "since you already have a good retirement, we're going to give your SS to someone else since you don't need it."

Too many people believe social security is an "insurance" policy, not a retirement fund.
