jfred, we have been waiting about a decade now for the big bad deflation monster to appear and it is still just a vicious rumour. In a race between the Second Coming, Deflation, Big Foot, and The Rapture, I am not betting on Deflation arriving first. [I might have my Rapture and Second Coming confused - I think one precedes the other, but can't remember which is which and am not aware of any sects up mountains at the moment

I check out ahahahaha's rants from time to time. I think he misunderstood us to be predicting deflation and he was arguing that deflation wouldn't happen, not realizing that that was my [and maybe our] position too. He was so busy wanting to fight that he forgot to drain the swamp.

I am banned from his lair.

There has already been a huge correction in the USA with NZ$ now double what it was in Y2K vs US$. Gold has doubled against US$ too. So has oil and a lot more besides [such as NZ houses even without the exchange rate variation - give or take a bit].

My guess is that as the big debts are brought back to earth, Big Ben will cut interest rates again just as Uncle Al KBE did.

Despite the huge oil price increases, the US economy hasn't blinked. In 1974, there was quite a crunch when oil quadrupled. Not this time. Now, oil is small beer compared with per capita GDP.
