Yup, me too. I got the sulfur from the hardware store, which had a hobby section with stuff for chemistry sets. Got the saltpetre from the drugstore. Used Mom's kitchen grinder to grind up charcoal briquets, and strained the stuff with her tea strainer.

Made a toy cannon from two pieces of copper pipe, one inside the other. Had a lot of trouble getting it to detonate, because it would gush a two-foot flame from the touch hole where I inserted the fuse. Finally went KABOOM really loud, and that's when Dad noticed what I was up to, LOL.

Got read the riot act and ordered to cease fire! <g>
