Keep in mind that Countrywide Financial (CFC) does own an FDIC bank.

bank.countrywide.com

Much of their lending has occurred outside of their bank, but this is why they say the can hold their own loans for some time. If the secondary market remains closed, then their lending volume will contract to match the size of their bank.

When it comes to residential lending, if you're not a bank and can't access the overnight window, you are GUARANTEED to have liquidity issues. And it will only get worse for CFC.
