With the Virginia Tech shooter, his hard drive is missing...police can't find it.

Surplus military rifles - there is a HUGE amount of this stuff all over the world, especially 1880 - 1980 manufacture, when countries wanted large "citizen armies" for conflicts like The Great War. Any thing that isn't a military current caliber tends to be cheap.

Would not surprise me that police are selling - as long as the market is outside the country, who cares ? 98% of all the guns in civilian hands are never used for anything except hunting.
